This is not a how-to post, neither a how-to story like we can see on medium “how I gain thousands of dollars using NFT”. I am just trying new things and want to share my experience and thoughts about it.

As mentioned in the title, I created my first NFTs, I bought them but now I don’t know where to go.

Last weekend I created my first pixel arts, I listed them on OpenSea to sell them. And as surprising as it could be I sold some pieces!

Okay, I earned a ridiculous amount per piece. I know. But it was more amazing and funnier than receiving my salary!

So let’s start with the beginnings :

It all started when I saw this title in the news «A 12-year-old teenager earned 160,000 USD in 9 hours». That’s how I discovered the NFT word.

I was curious to know more about NFTs. So I did some researches and created my collections.

How to get NFT?

It is simple, to get NFT you need to sell a digital thing. So the first thing to do is to create that thing.

1- Create your digital object to sell

2- Publish it on a marketPlace

3- Wait that someone buys it

1- Create a digital object

I choose to create pixel art images, but you can buy any digital thing (photo, music, or even text). I create my pixel images on the Pixilart site.

I’ve also written a little script to create unique copies of each image by changing the colors randomly. That helped me generate hundreds of unique images in few seconds.

2- Sell your «object»

Once you have the object to sell, you need to publish it on a marketplace. OpenSea is one of the most known marketplaces. The advantage is that it does not require any approval to publish on it.

You can sell using either Etherum or Polygon networks.

I still don’t know how it works neither the differences. But if you choose Etherum you need to pay an initial «gas fee». And I don’t want to spend any money on such an uncertain experience. So I choose Polygon network to be able to sell my objects without initial investment.

3- Wait

Yes, now all you need to do is to wait that someone buys your objects.

As I could see, the only pieces I sold are the less expensive. I am not a known artist (because I am not an artist :) ). So the best strategy that worked for me is to make my objects affordable and (very very) cheap to attract buyers. Almost all of my prices are around 0.01$.

The result

It has been one week since I created my OpenSea account.

Until now I earned 0.0037 Eth (~13 $), which is good as a beginning.

But I still don’t understand everything. For example, when I try to get my money, I need to pay transaction fees (around 138 dollars, it is 10 times more than my earnings).

I also don’t know how to scale my “business”. I can automate the image generation, but I cannot upload multiple files at once to OpenSea. And it is a very time consuming and boring task: you need to upload the image, type the name (metadata are optional so I let them empty), submit, and once published, you need to list your image. To list an image you need to type a price and sign the wallet => repeat for each image.

And now what?

Today, I am doing this for fun, but I don’t know if I will do it for a long time. It is time consuming and I am not sure about the results.

It is a good opportunity for me to learn more about NFTs, Ethereum, and image processing. And it is funny to earn few dollars when learning.

This is my next steps :

  • See how scalable is this
  • Diversify my collection
  • Wait and see

If you want to see my collections this is my profile on OpenSea (please don’t laugh :D): https://opensea.io/abbour

This is also the french post that helped me to do my first steps.

Please feel free to share your own experience in the comments. That could help and enrich this experience.
